I learnt TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION (TM) in 1989. I was so impressed with the technique; I was inspired to become a teacher and have been teaching since I qualified 1st January 2000. I became associated with the Meditation Trust in 2009.
I have spent over 12 months on residential courses in order to qualify. My greatest reward with teaching is to see a change taking place in students.”
GETTING THE BEST FOR ONE’S SELF
TM is a sound practical and simple DIY technique for getting the best out of one’s self. One becomes one’s own therapist. It is easy to learn and practice yet is very powerful. One only needs to spend a few minutes every day practicing.
It works on the very root of our very being. It provides benefits to the whole person. In a few minutes it brings inner peace and the depth of rest that is achieved is twice as much as eight hours of sleep. It is rejuvenating, healing and releases very deep rooted stresses. It also has a spiritual dimension that raises consciousness
Even if we regard our self as healthy, happy and successful - there is still a lot to be gained from TM. Over 600 research studies have shown a wide range of benefits. One study of 2000 people practicing TM showed that they have between 50% and 80% less hospitalisation than the norm. Other research shows they are more creative and use more of the brain and that the brain functions better. Other research shows relationships improve.
NOT ALL MEDITATION TECHNIQUES ARE THE SAME!
"Meditations differ in both their ingredients and their effects, just as medicines do. Lumping them all together as "essentially the same" is simply a mistake," said Jonathan Shear, Ph.D., co-author, professor of philosophy at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and the author of several books and publications on meditation.
"Explicit differences between meditation techniques need to be respected when researching physiological patterns or clinical outcomes of meditation practices," said Dr. Travis. "If they are averaged together, then the resulting phenomenological, physiological, and clinical profiles cannot be meaningfully interpreted."
