Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a comprehensive health care system originating in India more than 5,000 years ago. The literal translation of the Sanskrit word ‘Ayurveda’ simply means ‘knowledge of life’ or ‘right living’ and looks at an individual holistically of mind, body and spirit.

According to Ayurveda, everything in existence, including us, comes from the five elements; earth, fire, water, air, and ether (space). These elements, when paired together, form ‘doshas’ or the constitutions that influence our health, wellbeing, habits, personality and behaviours. Ayurveda looks at ill health as an imbalance of these ‘doshas’. Unfortunately factors such as diet, lifestyle, climate, pollution, work, relationships and even the passage of time can cause this imbalance.

The practitioner assists in healing these imbalances holistically through; educating the individual of their unique self ‘prakriti’ and tailoring an individual healthcare plan using various health and wellbeing interventions such as; the use of therapeutic herbs, diet and nutrition advice, life-style counselling, meditation and yoga.
